• Notched trowel for spreading adhesive
• Specialized vinyl floor adhesive (e.g., Y-6000, KJ-8800).

Simple DIY Adhesive Spreader Tip:

• Cut a piece of vinyl flooring about 25 cm long (about a hand span).
• Use a utility knife to create 10-15 grooves, 2-3 mm deep, at one end of the piece. These grooves help distribute the adhesive evenly and prevent clumping.
• Do not create too many grooves, as this can cause adhesive to ooze onto the surface, affecting aesthetics and wasting adhesive.

2. Subfloor Preparation (Mandatory)

• The subfloor must be perfectly flat. If it's old, cracked tile or uneven concrete, it needs to be patched.
• Clean thoroughly: sweep and mop to remove all dirt and debris. If the subfloor has dust, the adhesive will bond to the dust instead of the subfloor, leading to easy peeling.
• Completely dry, do not install when the subfloor is damp. The ideal subfloor moisture content is < 2.5% (measured with a specialized meter).

Small tip: If the grout lines are too deep, it's advisable to use a leveling compound to flatten them before installation to avoid indentations after laying the floor, which can be unsightly.

1. Prepare the Adhesive

• For bucket adhesive: stir well before use to ensure a uniform mixture.
• For pouch adhesive: shake gently to fully dissolve the compounds.

2. Apply Adhesive to the Subfloor

• Pour the adhesive onto the subfloor. Use the notched trowel to spread the adhesive evenly across the floor.
• Standard adhesive amount: approximately 0.25 - 0.4kg of adhesive per m², depending on the subfloor type (1kg of adhesive covers about 4m² – 5m²).

Note: Only apply enough adhesive for an area of about 30-40m² (or depending on your installation speed). Do not cover the entire room, as the adhesive will dry out before you can lay the flooring.

3. Wait for the Adhesive to Dry

• After applying the adhesive, do not install the flooring immediately. You must wait about 20-40 minutes (depending on the adhesive type and weather) until the adhesive layer changes from milky white to a translucent yellowish color.
• To be sure, you can test by touching the adhesive with your hand. If it feels dry but still slightly tacky, then begin installing the vinyl flooring.

Reason: If installed while the adhesive is still wet, it will ooze through the floor seams and have very poor adhesion.

4. Lay the Vinyl Flooring

• Install the flooring planks tightly together, leaving a small gap of 3-5mm at the base of the walls to allow for natural expansion in warm weather.
• Use the rubber mallet to gently tap the planks to ensure they adhere firmly to the subfloor.

5. Cleaning

Finally, clean the floor before use. Gently wipe the floor with a damp cloth to remove any remaining dust, dirt, or fingerprints from the installation process.

Installing Pre-glued Vinyl Flooring

Installing pre-glued vinyl flooring is simple and fast (like applying decals).

Step 1: Determine Installation Direction

It is recommended to lay the long side of the flooring planks along the length of the room or in the direction of light from the window to create a sense of spaciousness.

Step 2: Install the Flooring

Peel off the protective backing from the rear of the plank, then place and adhere it directly to the subfloor in the precisely aligned position. Ensure the edge of the plank is aligned with the wall or the previously laid plank to maintain a seamless and aesthetic surface.

Note: pre-glued flooring adheres very quickly, so you must align it precisely before pressing down firmly to avoid misalignment or the need to reposition, which can reduce adhesion.

Step 3: Reinforce Edges (Based on Installer Experience)

Although the flooring has pre-applied adhesive, for increased durability, it is recommended to use additional PVA glue or specialized adhesive for vinyl flooring. Apply a small amount at the four corners or spread a thin layer along the edges of the planks before adhering. This method helps to secure the edges more firmly, preventing them from lifting or gapping over time.

Step 4: Cutting the Flooring

For areas where the flooring extends beyond the wall corners, use a measuring tape and a utility knife to score a strong line on the surface of the plank (no need to cut all the way through). Then, gently bend the plank by hand; it will break cleanly along the scored line.

Step 5: Use a Rubber Mallet

After laying each plank, use the rubber mallet to gently and evenly tap the entire surface and the seams to ensure the adhesive bonds firmly to the subfloor.

High Aesthetic Glue-Down Vinyl Flooring Installation Techniques

Staggered Installation (1/3 or Natural Offset Pattern)

For a beautiful and natural look, avoid aligning the flooring planks in straight rows. Instead, use a staggered (stair-step) pattern. This installation method is recommended by architects, creating a sense of a larger room and avoiding a rigid appearance.

How to do it:

• Row 1: install a full long plank (100%).
• Row 2: Cut off a portion, using only 2/3 of a plank for the first piece.
• Row 3: Use the remaining 1/3 of a plank for the first piece.
• Row 4: Return to installing a full long plank (100%).

Running Bond Installation

Similar to the staggered pattern, but instead of precisely measuring and cutting 1/3 or 2/3, which can be time-consuming and wasteful, you can use this method:

• Row 1: Start with a full plank. Lay it to the end of the room, where there will likely be a leftover piece. Cut off the excess.
• Row 2: Use the leftover piece from the end of Row 1 to start Row 2.
• Row 3: Use the leftover piece from the end of Row 2 to start Row 3.

Note: if the leftover piece is too short (under 15cm), discard it and cut a new plank to ensure good adhesion.

Installing Finishing Accessories

Technically, installing additional accessories is not mandatory. Vinyl flooring can still be used normally even without skirting boards or trims. However, for aesthetics and long-term durability, accessories are essential if you want to cover expansion gaps and better protect the floor edges.

After laying the floor, there will be gaps at the wall edges. You need to use skirting boards (molding) or end trims to cover these rough cut edges and expansion gaps.

Ensure the installation subfloor meets the standard requirements of the "3 Nos" principle:

• No dust
• No moisture
• No unevenness

For self-adhesive vinyl flooring, apply an additional thin layer of specialized adhesive for increased durability.

During the first 48 hours after installation, do not pour water for cleaning. Only wipe gently with a wrung-out damp cloth. Avoid heavy foot traffic or dragging heavy objects.

Carefully calculate the floor area to avoid significant shortages or excess, which leads to waste.
