Below are 14 steps for installing Click-lock Vinyl Flooring according to standard procedures, ensuring the flooring is installed securely, beautifully, and has a long lifespan.
Step 1: Prepare Necessary Tools
Similar to installing Glue-down Vinyl Flooring, Click-lock Vinyl Flooring installation also requires basic tools such as a pencil, square ruler, saw, hammer, measuring tape, and an underlayment (depending on the type).
Currently, some high-end Click-lock Vinyl Flooring types like Galaxy Eco Premium come with an integrated IXPE backing, so you don't need to purchase and lay an additional underlayment during installation.

Step 2: Determine the Installation Method
Click-lock Vinyl Flooring has two main installation styles: staggered (brick-joint pattern) and herringbone pattern. Here, Thien Ha Floor will guide you through the most common installation method, the staggered pattern.
First, you need to pay attention to the installation direction of Click-lock Vinyl Flooring, which should be parallel to the direction of natural light entering the room. This arrangement offers several distinct benefits, such as:
- Creates a sense of depth, making the wood grain appear seamless and more natural. This is especially effective in well-lit spaces like living rooms with large windows, balconies, or strong ceiling lighting.
- Reduces shadowing at the click joints, making the flooring look more luxurious and high-end.
In practice, in modern apartments, installing flooring in the direction of light from the balcony into the living room often makes the space feel more spacious, airy, and refined.

Install flooring parallel to natural light entering the room
A small note is that for large spaces (>200m²), you can divide the area into appropriate sections for installation (approximately 8–10m continuous length) and use T-shaped trims at the division points. Avoid installing Click-lock Vinyl Flooring continuously throughout the entire space, as this can lead to:
- Uneven expansion and contraction of the flooring due to temperature or humidity changes
- The flooring lifting, warping, or squeaking
- Difficulty controlling expansion gaps at the wall edges
Suggested appropriate flooring division points:
- At the threshold between two rooms
- Between two functional areas (kitchen – dining room, living room – workspace)

Use T-shaped trims at Click-lock Vinyl Flooring division points for each space (approx. 100m² wide)
Step 3: Lay the Underlayment (if needed)
If you are using Click-lock Vinyl Flooring without an integrated foam layer, it is crucial to lay an underlayment for softer footfall, noise reduction, and moisture resistance.
You can purchase common types of underlayment such as:
- White or silver PE foam with a moisture-resistant film
- EVA foam (often used in apartments and bedrooms for sound insulation)
- Premium underlayment with double-sided adhesive – convenient, anti-slip, reduces shifting during installation
Note: Lay the foam underlayment in the direction of the roll, avoid overlapping edges, and use tape to secure each section to prevent shifting during installation. For flooring types with an integrated backing (usually 1–1.5mm thick), you do not need to lay an additional foam layer to avoid uneven height or floor depression.

Step 4: Align the First Row
- Before installation, measure the room's width → then divide by the plank width. If the last plank is less than 5cm, cut down the width of the first plank to ensure symmetry and a pleasing appearance on both sides.
- Starting from the left corner of the room, place the first plank against the wall (leaving a 10–15mm expansion gap at the wall edge).
- Place subsequent planks close together, using a rubber mallet to gently tap and lock the click joints tightly.

Step 5: Install Subsequent Planks
- Hold the plank at an angle of approximately 20–30°.
- Insert the female click joint (groove) into the male click joint (tongue) of the already installed plank.
- Slowly lower it vertically until it locks tightly.
- Use your hand or a rubber mallet to gently tap the plank edge to secure the lock and prevent gaps.
Note:
- When these edges are correctly aligned, they will automatically lock into place.
- Avoid using a regular hammer to forcefully tap the click joint, as this can break or chip the plank edge. Always use a rubber mallet or a plastic tapping block for safe operation.
