Installing roll vinyl flooring requires meticulousness and accuracy in every step to ensure the highest durability and aesthetics for the project. In this article, Thien Ha Floor will provide a detailed guide to installing roll vinyl flooring, helping you gain a comprehensive overview of the entire process and achieve optimal installation results.
Steps for installing roll vinyl flooring
The installation process for roll vinyl flooring consists of the following 5 steps:
Measure, inspect, and prepare the initial subfloor → apply self-leveling compound → inspect and level the subfloor → lay the flooring → clean and maintain.
Additionally, for the self-leveling compound application step, you will need Latex water and adhesive.

Detailed guide to installing roll vinyl flooring
1. Measure, inspect, and prepare the initial subfloor
During the initial subfloor inspection before installing roll vinyl flooring, customers need to meet the following surface standards:
Dry subfloor: moisture content of 4.5% or less.
Subfloor flatness: must be within 2mm±5m. If the subfloor does not meet the standard, use cement mortar to level it.
The subfloor must be free of cracks and clean, without contaminants such as paint, whitewash, oil, grease, or other dirt.
Ambient temperature: roll vinyl flooring installation should be carried out between 15-28°C. If the temperature is below 5°C, do not proceed with installation.
Subfloor hardness: must be at least C20.
2. Steps for applying self-leveling compound
Clean the subfloor: thoroughly clean the entire surface to ensure good adhesion for the self-leveling compound.
Prepare the primer: use a roller or brush to evenly apply a layer of Latex water onto the subfloor to enhance the adhesion of the self-leveling compound.
Mix the self-leveling compound: mix the self-leveling compound thoroughly according to the manufacturer's instructions, ensuring uniformity and the correct consistency. Then, proceed to apply the compound to the subfloor.
Address blistering: inspect the surface after applying the compound. If any blistering or uneven areas are found, address them immediately.
Seal the work area: after the self-leveling compound has completely dried, seal and protect the area to prevent environmental impact and ensure the quality of the work.
3. Inspect and prepare the subfloor after applying self-leveling compound
Ensure the subfloor is dry
Add compound to edges and dead corners
Grind the self-leveling compound surface smooth
Use a vacuum cleaner to remove grinding dust and any remaining debris from the subfloor surface.
4. Proceed with flooring installation
Preparation before laying the floor: before installing roll vinyl flooring, the product should be unrolled and left in the installation area for at least 48 hours to allow it to acclimate to the surrounding environment.
Maintain room temperature within the permissible range (approximately 15-28°C, depending on product requirements). If the temperature is too low or too high, use air conditioners, fans, or heaters to adjust and ensure stable temperature during the installation of roll vinyl flooring.
Mark the floor and prepare materials: After drawing the guidelines, prepare the materials and select a product that suits the flooring area.
Apply floor adhesive: spread an even layer of adhesive onto the area marked with guidelines. Wait about 15-25 minutes for the adhesive to become tacky, then use the rolling method to place the product onto the adhesive, ensuring both bond firmly.
Spread an even layer of adhesive onto the marked area
Roll and press the floor surface: Use a large roller weighing approximately 50kg to press out any trapped air from the installed floor surface. Simultaneously, ensure that the seams align correctly so that the product patterns match. After laying the floor, wait at least 24 hours for the adhesive to cure. Proceed to groove the seams, with a groove depth of 1/2 to 1/3 of the thickness of the mortar layer.
Weld seams: use a welding machine and specialized welding rods to seal the seams, creating a strong bond. After the welding rod cools, use a seam welding rod cutter to ensure the seam surface is flat and smooth.
5. Cleaning and handover
Use a neutral cleaning solution to wipe the floor surface with a damp mop. If adhesive is smeared, 95% industrial alcohol can be used for cleaning.
For regular maintenance and protection, use wax to polish and keep the floor surface shiny, while also enhancing its protection.
Conduct a final inspection of the entire floor area after installation. If any issues are found, they must be repaired immediately to ensure quality.
Upon completion, hand over the project to the client for acceptance, ensuring all stages have been executed according to technical standards and requirements.

Notes when installing roll vinyl flooring
When grooving, pay close attention to the edges of the seams to ensure accuracy and durability of the joints.
When welding seams, weld in a straight line at a consistent speed, avoiding errors such as weld pits or misaligned welds.
When cutting the welding rod, cut in one continuous motion and do it quickly. Ensure even cutting, without creating a jagged edge.
After installing roll vinyl flooring, there may be a slight odor from the material. Therefore, ensure good ventilation to allow the odor to dissipate quickly and not affect the working environment.
